12 New or Newly Renovated Accommodations that Show Nova Scotia is the Best Place for a Night Away

From brand-new (and totally cool) accommodations to freshly renovated motels, operators have continued to invest in accommodations that will support the recovery and growth of Nova Scotia’s tourism industry.

Sally’s Brook, Englishtown

Sally’s Brook is an eco-friendly property in Englishtown on Cape Breton Island. The rugged natural landscape with off-grid luxury amenities is a perfect spot for a group retreat, family reunion, vacation getaway, or the start or end of a trip around the Cabot Trail. Three wilderness cabins nestled in the trees overlooking St. Ann’s Bay opened for bookings in September 2020 and new additions, including Stargazer Bell Tents, are underway.

Tru by Hilton, Yarmouth

Acadia First Nation opened the Tru by Hilton in early 2021. The hotel has 89 guest rooms, with two specially designed accessible rooms on each floor, a pool with a water slide, a fitness room, and 1,000 square feet of conference space.  Unique features include the free build-your-own “Top It” breakfast bar with hot items and more than 35 sweet and savory toppings, semi-private work pods in the lobby, and tech-savvy amenities like mobile check-in, Digital Key, remote printing, social media wall, and more.

Marina Landing Villas, Fox Harbour

Marina Landing Villas is a secluded hillside retreat overlooking the Northumberland Strait at Fox Harb’r Resort. Marina Landing Villas offer ocean views with either 3 or 4 bedrooms with luxury King and Queen beds. The villas opened for overnight stays in late 2020, adding more options for guests at Nova Scotia’s only 5-star resort.

Lighthouse Motel & Cottages, Conquerall Bank

The Lighthouse Motel completed renovations this winter on the 1950s-era motel. The retro-inspired accommodations honour the distinctively Canadian Maritime experience. Modern amenities, a make-over, and a new website are among the upgrades completed to enhance the guest experience.

Ketch Floating Cottage, Pleasantville

Also on the banks of the LaHave River, Ketch is a unique, fully-equipped floating home with modern décor and amenities. Guests can fall asleep to the sounds and motion of gentle river waves in this fully equipped cottage, and take advantage of the fire pit, kayaks, and a floating deck that’s perfect for barbecuing, fishing, or soaking up the sun.

Dundee Resort – Dundee

Sonny Grewal purchased Dundee Resort in 2018 and has been renovating and upgrading the facilities ever since. Dundee now boasts a new look in the main lodge, cottages, and clubhouse with smart TVs, new furniture, a new door locking system, and upgraded wifi. New experiences at the resort include a pontoon boat and cleared hiking trails.

Valley Sky Luxury Camping Domes – Wolfville

Valley Sky Luxury Camping is a brand-new glamping experience in close proximity to the vineyards and attractions of the Annapolis Valley. The first two of a series of geodesic domes began taking reservations in spring 2021. Each dome is complete with a fire pit and hot tub.

The Inn at Grand Pré Winery, Grand Pré

If Valley Sky doesn’t get you close enough to the vineyard, stay at the new Inn at Grand Pré Winery and really get a feel for what it’s like to live at a vineyard. The entire building has undergone extensive renovations that maintain the classic historic feel of the winery while adding modern fixtures. The inn opened for reservations in June 2021.

Deep Sky Observatory – Tusket

The new Sky Bubble at the Deep Sky Observatory allows stargazers to sleep under the stars in comfort. This new inflated tent with a clear ceiling is located in North America’s first certified Starlight Tourist Destination, making this the perfect place to gaze at the Milky Way. Guests can package an overnight stay with the Deep Sky Eye Experience to learn how to navigate the sky and catch a view of the celestial wonders through the outdoor telescope.

Ôasis Pods, Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site

Kejimkujik was closed to front-country campers in 2020 to make significant upgrades including new inclusive washroom and shower facilities, new drinking water and wastewater treatment facilities, and a new multi-use trail. The highlight though is the new tear-drop-shaped accommodations overlooking the Mersey River. The Ôasis Pods include a convertible table/bed that sleeps two adults and a hammock loft that can sleep two children.

Marmalade Motel – Port Dufferin

Neil and Cheryl MacLean moved the family from Toronto in September 2020 to take ownership of the former Marquis of Dufferin Motel. They renovated all nine rooms with a ‘modern boho’ vibe – putting in all new furniture, flooring, bathrooms. Each room has a private balcony that takes full advantage of the amazing ocean views. The fully renovated Marmalade Motel opened in April 2021.

Fossil Farms, Egerton

Fossil Farms is a new oceanside retreat nestled within a spectacular farm and vineyard, located on the edge of the Northumberland Strait. Accommodations feature full kitchens and bath, decks, and views of the farm and ocean. The new post and beam event barn serves as the main lodge with lots to keep guests entertained like games, astronomy kits, and movie nights.

Lakeview Haven, Chester

Lakeview Haven, a 240 sq ft tiny home located in Chester, opened in October 2020.  With no wifi and the lake at the doorstep, this peaceful unique getaway offers an escape to disconnect from the busyness of the world and refresh and relax.
